Antique Jewellery Box in Burr Walnut

Ref DL002
SOLD
This large antique jewellery box is veneered in Burr Walnut, edged with brass and fitted with two Bramah locks. The brass 'A.X.M' monogram inlaid into the lid denotes the box's original owner in the 1870's.

The compartmented interior is lined with burgundy velvet. The interior rims of the box are inlaid with gilded brass corner mounts; the front two having been engraved with the provenance of one of the box's former Victorian owners.

A gilt-brass framed mirror with foliate corner mounts is fitted to the underside of the lid. A concealed button releases the spring-loaded mirror forward to reveal a leather-bound letter wallet behind. A ruched velvet panel on the back of the mirror opens out as a table-top stand.

Two interior push buttons on the left and right sides of the box release small spring-loaded drawers from either side. These finely dovetailed drawers, constructed from solid Satinwood, contain velvet-lined compartments and ring/ cuff link channels.

The pull-out front drawer, also constructed from solid Satinwood, can be locked independently by its own Bramah lock. This drawer has a large velvet-lined area and a full width ring/ cufflink channel.

Both Bramah locks are working and come with their Bramah key.
