Ref DL012
SOLD
This miniature cubed antique jewellery box, veneered in fine quality Coromandel and edged with brass, dates from around the 1880s.

The interior is lined with royal purple velvet and is partitioned into small jewellery compartments. The lid of the box holds a ruched velvet panel which springs forward, with the push of a concealed button, to reveal a leather-framed mirror on the reverse.

A push button at the rear of the box releases a spring-loaded front drawer, containing a velvet-lined jewellery area and a ring / cuff link channel.

A small gilt brass maker's plate on the rim of the front drawer reads 'Howell, James & Co, Regent Street, London'. Howell, James & Co were very highly respected London makers and retailers, whose outstanding work amazed world audiences at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862.

The lock is fully working and comes with its original key.
