Antique Box in Mahogany with Brass Strapping

Ref DL024
SOLD
This antique jewellery box is made from solid Cuban Mahogany and dates from the mid 1830's.

Cuban Mahogany is one of the densest forms of Mahogany, renowned for its strength and resilience as well as its richness and depth of colour. Unfortunately, the desirability of this species of Cuban Mahogany led to its extinction by the end of the 1850's.

The box's radial edges are inlaid with brass strapping, and the sides are fitted with recessed brass campaign handles. With an already solid reinforced build structure, the Bramah lock only adds to the box’s robustness.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with burgundy velvet and is partitioned into five large compartments. The interior rims are inlaid with brass corner mounts.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
