Miniature Antique Dressing Case in Burr Walnut

This miniature Victorian antique dressing box from 1887 is veneered in figured Burr Walnut and edged with fine brass binding to the entire perimeter of the box. Unusually, this box retains its original leather outer carry case with sheepskin lining, bearing the original owner's name 'Alexandra Leveson Gower'.
Alexandra Leveson Gower was born on the 13th April 1866 in Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Scotland. She was the daughter of the 3rd Duke of Sutherland, George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson Gower, and the Countess of Cromartie, Anne Hay-Mackenzie. This box would have been most likely given to Alexandra by her parents for her 21st birthday in 1887.
The inside of this box is fitted with ten silver-gilt topped glass vanity bottles, each bearing the hallmark of George Betjemann & Sons, London, 1887. All the tops and lids have matching engraved 'A' monograms signifying 'Alexandra'. The interior brass work retains its rich original gilding.
The leather-bound tray, which houses six of the glass jars, lifts out to reveal a further leather-lined compartment below.
A removable leather framed mirror is fitted to the inside of the lid, and has a blue ruched velvet panel on its reverse.
There is a brass push button at the back of the box which releases a spring-loaded lower drawer. This drawer is lined with the original matching blue velvet and contains a full width ring/ cuff link channel and open lined compartment.
A small gilded maker's plate on the rim of this drawer reads 'Lovegrove & Flint - 9 Halkin Street, West'.
The lock is fully working and comes with its original key.
