Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood by Edwards

Ref DL049
SOLD
This early 1840's antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of England's finest cabinet makers, Edwards. It is veneered in beautifully figured Brazilian Rosewood, edged in brass, and finished with two elegant recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.

The inside of the box is lined with deep blue velvet, and the interior rims are inlaid with brass stringing. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray, with a removable miniature sub-tray, lifts out to reveal a secondary leather-bound tray below. This second tray has a large open velvet-lined area, ideal for storing larger pieces of jewellery and valuables. This tray can then be removed to access a further shallow compartment underneath, which also houses two small secret pull-out drawers.

A removable leather-bound and velvet covered writing book sits inside the lid. This book still retains its original bound paper and displays the embossed, gold-tooled maker's name, 'Edwards, Manufacturer to Her Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London.'

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
