Asprey Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood

This 1840's early Victorian antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of England's most prestigious companies, Asprey. It is veneered in figured Brazilian Rosewood, edged with brass, and finished with two elegant brass recessed side handles and a Bramah lock. The top brass plate is engraved with the monogram 'P.B' belonging to its original owner.
The inside of the box is lined with deep blue velvet, and the interior rims are inlaid with brass stringing. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray lifts out to reveal two further leather-bound trays below.
The ruched velvet panel can be removed from the lid and opens into a leather-bound writing paper wallet with moireé silk lining.
The rear rim of the box displays the embossed, gold-tooled maker's mark, 'Asprey, Manufacturer to her Majesty. 166 Bond St, W.'
