This Coromandel antique jewellery box dates from the 1870's and was manufactured by one of the finest English cabinetmakers, George Betjemann & Sons of 36 & 38 Pentonville Road, London.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched in dark purple velvet, with original gilding to the brass work. The main compartment is partitioned into seven sections, including a full width rear section. A push button to the rear of the box releases a spring-loaded front drawer, containing a velvet-lined jewellery area and a full width ring/ cuff-link channel. A small gilt brass plate on the rim of the drawer displays the engraved retailer's name, ‘Jones & Sons, Castle St, Liverpool’. A further push button on the left side of the box releases a side drawer with a leather-lined interior.

The Bramah lock, stamped with 'G. Betjemann & Sons, London', is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
