Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood by Edwards

Ref DL069
SOLD
This late 1830's antique jewellery box is veneered in figured Brazilian Rosewood, edged in brass, with two recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock. The central brass plate on the lid is engraved with a coronet insignia, denoting that this box originally belonged to an Earl or Countess.

The inside of the box is lined and ruched with blue velvet, and the interior rims are inlaid with brass stringing. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray lifts out to reveal a secondary leather-bound tray below. This tray can then be removed to access a further shallow compartment underneath. To the rear of the box is a full width and full depth velvet-lined compartment.

Although unsigned, this box is certainly the work of the highly respected English box maker, Edwards of 21 King St, Bloomsbury, London.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
