Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel with Cantilever Mechanism by C.F Hancock

This antique jewellery box, dating from the 1880's, was manufactured and retailed by the highly respected London maker and jeweller, Charles F Hancock. The vibrant Coromandel wood casing is finished with brass edging and inlay, brass recessed handles and an inlaid and engraved brass central monogram.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with purple velvet. The front of the box drops forward to allow the top two compartments to cantilever out at right-angles. These two compartments have secret spring-loaded drawers contained within that pop out when their concealed floor triggers are pressed. Once fully opened up, the partitioned central area of the box is revealed. The brass maker's plate engraved with 'C.F Hancock - 152 New Bond Street, London W' pushes down to release a large concealed spring-loaded front drawer.

A ruched velvet panel in the lid of the box springs forward, with the push of a concealed button, to reveal a leather framed mirror on the reverse, as well as a secret letter wallet behind.

The lock is fully working and comes with its key.
