This antique jewellery box, dating from around 1850, is veneered and cross-banded with Calamander wood and edged with brass.

The interior, lined with burgundy leather and matching velvet, houses three leather-bound trays; a main partitioned tray, a shallow top rear tray and a deep rear tray underneath. The box is fitted with Edwards Patent concealed hinges and the rims have been inlaid with brass stringing.

A removable leather-bound writing book, retaining its original bound paper, sits inside the lid. The edge of this book displays the embossed, gold-tooled maker's mark of, 'Edwards, Manufacturer to Her Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London'. A removable free-standing leather-bound mirror is stored directly behind the writing book. The underside of the lid has the stamp of 'Edwards 21 King Strt Holborn'.

The Bramah lock, signed J. Bramah, 124 Piccadilly, is fully working and comes with its Bramah key.
