Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood with Foliate Brass Inlay, Attributed to Edwards

Ref DL102
SOLD
This unusually large antique jewellery box dates from around 1830. It is veneered in Rosewood with right-angle brass edging, recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock. The top of the box is beautifully and precisely inlaid with a perimeter brass edging, composed of geometric circles and flowers within flower pots; the flower heads bear many differing design combinations.

The compartmented interior of the box is lined with green velvet and matching Morocco leather. The interior rims are faced with brass, with individually inlaid Rosewood circles. The lid of the box holds a removable Rosewood framed mirror.

The independently locking lower drawer, with a matching brass and Rosewood facing, contains further larger compartments.

Taking into account the age and design attributes of this box - in particular the exterior design and construction, the specific variety of Rosewood veneer, the recessed side handle design, and the type of hinges - it was almost certainly manufactured and retailed by Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury, London.

Both the Bramah lock and the lower drawer lock come with their keys.
