Antique Jewellery Box in Thuya Wood, by Berthet à Paris

This 1860's French antique jewellery box is veneered in Thuya wood, edged and strung with brass on all sides, and fitted with recessed brass side handles. The central inlaid and engraved coronet denotes a French Baroness.

The interior is lined and ruched with purple velvet, with the internal rims being inlaid with double brass stringing.

The box is fitted with a Bramah patent lock; the lock plate is signed by the manufacturer, 'Berthet F_ANT - Rue Du Temple 198 Paris'. The original miniature Bramah patent key is present.

Note: F_ANT is short for 'Fabricant', translating from French into English as 'Manufacturer'.
