Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel, Retailed by Ernest Renton

This large antique jewellery box, dating from the late 1870's, is veneered in Coromandel, with nickel plated brass radial edging, inlaid monogram, recessed side handles and a Bramah lock.
The interior of the box is lined and ruched with blue velvet, accompanying nickel plated fittings. There is a removable leather-bound jewellery tray with a velvet-lined area beneath, as well as a full width rear compartment.
The retailer's plate at the rear of the box, engraved with ‘Ernest Renton - Jeweller - 1 Pall Mall Place’, pushes down to release a spring-loaded front drawer. This drawer contains two full width velvet-lined jewellery compartments and a full width ring/ cuff link channel.
