Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood by Edwards

Ref DL128
SOLD
Dating from around 1830, this antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of the finest English cabinet makers, Edwards. It is veneered in Rosewood, edged in brass and finished with recessed brass side handles and a Bramah patent lock.

The inside of the box is lined with burgundy velvet and moiré silk. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray, with a removable sub-trays, lifts out to reveal a secondary leather-bound tray below. With both trays removed, two small concealed pull-out drawers in the base section become accessible.

The ruched velvet panel in the lid drops forward to reveal a concealed leather-bound letter wallet behind. This letter wallet displays the gold-tooled maker's mark of, 'Edwards, Manufacturer to His Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London'. A removable free-standing leather- bound mirror is fitted to the underside of the lid.

The box retains its original leather-bound outer travelling case.

The Bramah patent lock is fully working and comes with its original key.
