This antique jewellery box, veneered in Coromandel with ornate brass inlay, dates from the 1860’s. It was manufactured and retailed by John Farthing of 42 Cornhill, London.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with purple velvet. The front flap of the box opens forward to reveal two concealed drawers with recessed brass handles. The lower drawer, with its lift-up leather-bound writing surface, is compartmented into four sections accompanying a full width ring/ cuff link channel.

A spring-loaded ruched velvet panel in the lid can be reversed to display a leather-bound mirror. Behind this panel is a concealed leather-bound letter wallet bearing the paper manufacturer’s and retailer’s label of John Farthing.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its key.
