Ref DL140
SOLD
This antique jewellery box, veneered in figured Calamander with Ebony edging, dates from the late 1870’s. It was manufactured by one of the finest English cabinetmakers, George Betjemann & Sons of 36 & 38 Pentonville Road, London.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched in deep blue velvet. There is a removable leather-bound tray with a velvet-lined area beneath, as well as a compartmented rear section. A ruched velvet panel in the lid springs forward, with the push of a concealed button, to reveal a leather-framed mirror on the reverse, as well as a secret letter wallet behind. A push button to the rear of the box releases a spring-loaded front drawer, containing a velvet-lined jewellery area and a full width ring/ cuff-link channel. Inset to the front rim of the drawer is an engraved brass retailer’s plate that reads, ‘J. Bagshaw & Sons, Liverpool’.

The Bramah lock, stamped with 'G. Betjemann & Sons - Makers - London', is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
