Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood with Foliate Brass Inlay, by Austin of Dublin

Dating from 1840, this antique jewellery box in Rosewood is inlaid with a delicate foliate brass design, accompanying radial brass edging, recessed side handles and a Bramah lock.
The interior has been lined in purple velvet and moiré silk, with the inner rims of the box inlaid with brass stringing. There are three removable leather-bound trays; the top one being compartmented and bearing the gold-tooled manufacturer’s mark of Thomas and George Austin of 6 & 7 St Andrew Street, Dublin.
The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with an original Bramah key.
