French Antique Travelling Jewellery Box in Cuban Mahogany

This French antique travelling jewellery box, dating from around 1815, is made from solid Cuban Mahogany. It has been sculpted from a single piece of wood, and then sawn in half to make up the main section and the lid. The wood has then been hollowed out for the interior to be fitted. The box is finished with an elliptical brass lock frontage, engraved brass central shield, and inlaid brass stringing.
The lid of the box opens out at 180 degrees to reveal an interior lined with green velvet and matching Grosgrain silk.
