Antique Jewellery Box in Kingwood, by Wells & Lambe

Dating from around 1840, this brass edged antique jewellery box in Kingwood was manufactured and retailed by Wells & Lambe of 29 Cockspur Street, London. There is inlaid brass stringing to each of the sides, and then finished with recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.
The compartmented interior is lined with red velvet and moiré silk. The box has been fitted with concealed brass hinges stamped with, ‘E. Wells & Co. Patent’. An embossed leather strip on the inside of the lid displays the gold tooled maker's mark of, ‘Wells & Lambe Manufacturers to the Queen.’
