Miniature French Antique Jewellery Box in Cuban Mahogany, Attributed to Pierre-Dominique Maire

This miniature French antique jewellery box, in the form of an elliptic cylinder, dates from around 1805. It has been sculpted from a single piece of Cuban Mahogany, and then sawn in half to make up the main section and the lid. The wood has then been hollowed out for the interior to be fitted. The box is finished with ornate brass side mounts and lock frontage, engraved brass central shield, and inlaid brass stringing.

The interior of the box is lined with deep red velvet accompanying gold-tooled leather.

Although unsigned, this box is very likely the work of the highly respected Parisian manufacturer, Pierre-Dominique Maire.

The characteristic double action lock works perfectly and comes with its key.
