French Antique Travelling Jewellery Box in Cuban Mahogany

This French antique jewellery box, in the form of an elliptic cylinder, dates from around 1820. It has been sculpted from a single piece of Cuban Mahogany, and then sawn in half to make up the main section and the lid. The wood has then been hollowed out for the interior to be fitted. The box is finished with a brass front plate and central shield.

The interior of the box is lined with gold velvet and matching grosgrain silk.
