Antique Jewellery Box in Kingwood, by William Chrisp

This large antique jewellery box, dating from the mid-1820’s, was manufactured and retailed by William Chrisp of Bond Street and Cockspur Street, London. It is veneered and cross-banded with Kingwood, inlaid with brass fleur-de-lis motifs, and finished with scribed right-angle brass edging and recessed brass side handles. Both side handles are engraved with a decorative monogram belonging to the original owner.

The partitioned interior is lined with purple moiré silk and velvet. Each internal wall, floor and compartment of the main section is lightly padded. The internal rims of the box are inlaid with double brass stringing accompanying 'E. Wells & Co Patent' concealed hinges.

The independently lockable lower drawer contains a large velvet-lined section and full width ring/ cuff link channel. The underside of the drawer bears the original paper trade label of William Chrisp.

The Bramah lock and lower drawer lock come with their original keys.
