SOLD
Dating from 1830, this antique jewellery box in Rosewood is inlaid with a delicate foliate brass design, accompanying radial brass edging, ornate recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.

The interior is lined with blue velvet and moiré silk accompanying gold-tooled Morocco leather. The inner rims of the box are inlaid with brass corner mounts and stringing. The main section of the box comprises a large front compartment with padded walls, and a further slimmer compartment to the rear of the box.

There is a removable gold-tooled leather panel in the lid inset with ruched velvet; this springs forward to display a mirror on the reverse. Behind this panel is a concealed leather letter wallet above which is a gold-tooled manufacturer’s mark of ‘P. D Ormiston - Maker - 21 Elder Street - EdinR [Edinburgh].

The lower drawer can be locked by either using the finialed brass pin that engages with it from above, or its own independent lock. A miniature recessed brass handle slides the drawer out to reveal a gold-tooled leather writing surface. Beneath the writing surface are a further five jewellery compartments and a ring/ cuff-link channel.

Both locks are fully working and come with their keys.
