Miniature Antique Dressing Case in Rosewood with Silver/ Gold Fittings, Attributed to Edwards
Ref DL222
SOLD
This miniature antique dressing case is veneered in Rosewood with brass edging. Although unsigned, it was undoubtedly manufactured by the firm of Edwards.
The interior, lined with a green Morocco leather, contains eight cut glass vanity bottles and jars with engine-turned silver lids. Solid gold discs set onto the lids are engraved with a matching monogram. Each of the silver fittings bear the maker's mark of Frederick Purnell and are hallmarked London 1875. The box itself dates to the early 1840's, therefore the silver contents were later commissioned to fit within the case.
A free-standing leather-bound mirror is fitted to the underside of the lid; stowed behind is a further leather-bound blotting pad and letter wallet.
The Bramah lock comes with its original key. ... Read More
