Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel with Two Spring-Loaded Drawers

Dating from the early 1870’s, this antique jewellery box is veneered in vibrant coromandel with brass edging and inlaid double brass stringing.
The interior of the box is lined with burgundy velvet and a matching moiré silk. All the brass fittings, including the unusual brass facings to the inside perimeter of the lid, are delicately engraved with a floral and scrollwork design. A push button to the rear rim of the box deploys the front spring-loaded lower drawer, and a push button to the left rim of the box deploys the spring-loaded right-hand drawer. Both drawers are manufactured from coromandel on all sides.
