Antique Jewellery Box in Calamander with Secret Wall Compartments, by Asprey

Manufactured and retailed by Asprey in 1859, this antique jewellery box is veneered and cross-banded in Calamander with brass edging and brass recessed side handles. The lid is inset with an engraved brass monogram bearing the initials ‘FGC’ beneath a Marchioness’ coronet.

The partitioned interior of the box, lined with blue velvet and moiré silk, is fitted with a centrally mounted leather-bound jewellery tray.

The interior rims of the box are veneered with cross-banded Calamander, concealing Edward's Patent brass hinges. An embossed leather panel on the inside of the lid displays the gold tooled maker's mark of, 'ASPREY. MANUFACTURER TO HER MAJESTY. 166 BOND ST W.

The independently lockable lower drawer contains a large velvet and moiré silk-lined area with a full width ring/ cuff link channel.

With the lower drawer removed, two concealed spring-loaded boxes can be deployed from the right and left sides of the drawer housing by pressing back on the corresponding interior walls. These boxes, made from Mahogany, have sliding lids that reveal an empty compartment in one and a removable gold sovereign holder in the other.

Both Bramah locks come with their original key.
