Antique Jewellery Box in Kingwood, by David Edwards

Ref DL246
SOLD
Dating from 1817, this antique jewellery box is veneered in kingwood and inlaid with a brass floral design accompanying panels of brass stringing. It is finished with right-angle brass edging, recessed brass side handles and a central brass plate to the lid bearing an engraved emblem of a bass fish above a monogram.

The interior, lined with blue Morocco leather and matching velvet, contains a compartmented leather-bound tray and miniature internal sub-tray. The rims of the box are faced with brass; the foremost is engraved with the manufacturer’s mark of ‘D. Edwards. Maker. 21 King Street. Holborn.’

The ruched velvet panel in lid drops forward to reveal a concealed letter wallet on the reverse and a removable freestanding leather-bound mirror with a gold tooled border design.

The Bramah lock comes with its original key.
