Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood with Foliate Brass Inlay, by William Dobson

Sold - Archived

Ref: DL067

This Rosewood antique jewellery box, dating from the 1820's, has been delicately inlaid with foliate brass to the front and top, edged in right-angle brass and finished with recessed side handles.

The interior, comprising a Mahogany jewellery tray, has been lined and ruched with burgundy velvet.

Removing the brass locking pin allows the lower drawer to be opened. This drawer contains a lift out Mahogany box that, once the lid has been removed, reveals a further velvet-lined jewellery area with a full length ring/ cuff-link channel.

Both the internal lid section in the lower drawer and the underside of the Mahogany jewellery tray display a maker's label that reads:

"Wm Dobson. Hardwareman, Stationer and Dealer in Fine Cutlery. Patentee of Zephyr 166 Strand, London Pocket Books, Writing Desks Shaving & Dressing Cases every article for fitting up the same on the lowest terms possible"

The lock is fully working and comes with a key.
