Antique Jewellery Box in Kingwood with Brass Inlaid Coronet Monogram

This grand antique jewellery box, dating from around 1840, is veneered in kingwood and edged with radial brass. The top has been inlaid with engraved brass corner flourishes and a central brass monogram with the initials ‘M.L.G’ accompanying an earl’s/countess’s coronet. Ornate ‘neoclassical’ style engraved brass handles have been fitted to the sides.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with wine red velvet. There are two removable leather-bound trays with multiple compartments for cufflinks and smaller pieces of jewellery. The base section and rear section are compartmented for larger valuables. The interior rims have been cross-banded with kingwood and inlaid with double brass stringing.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
