Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel, by William Lund

This antique jewellery box in coromandel was manufactured in the late 1850s by the highly respected English cabinetmaker and retailer, William Lund. The casing is finished with brass edging, double brass stringing, and a central brass plate engraved with the initials ‘L.J.L’.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with blue velvet and moiré silk. There is a removable leather-bound jewellery tray with a velvet and silk-lined compartment underneath. The interior rims of the box are inlaid with brass stringing.

The full-width side drawer is independently lockable, and contains a further open jewellery compartment accompanying a ring/cufflink channel.

The brass maker’s/retailer’s plate to the rear of the box reads, ‘Lund, 24 Fleet St, London’.

Both locks, stamped with ‘Lund - London’, are decoratively engraved and come with working keys.
