Rare Original Antique Jewellery Box in Kingwood with Foliate Brass Inlay

Sold - Archived

Ref: DL379

This is a very special box, as it is one of very few original Georgian jewellery boxes. It may sound rather surprising, but most boxes throughout the late Georgian and mid-Victorian eras were dressing cases, writing boxes, sewing boxes, games boxes or decanter boxes; boxes, especially this lavish, made specifically for jewellery were rarely produced in this form. More often, one's jewellery collection would be housed in a more utilitarean, wooden strong box destined for an iron safe.

Dating from the late 1820's, this antique jewellery box is veneered in Kingwood with fine foliate brass inlay The interior holds two original Morroco leather jewellery trays. An independantly lockable lower drawer has a large lined area, accompanying two compartments, one lidded.

The locks are fully working and come with their keys.
