Ref: DL495
ENQUIREDating from the late 1840s, this antique coromandel jewellery box was manufactured by Thomas Dalton of 85 Regent Street, London. The exterior features beautifully figured coromandel wood, decorated with ornate brass corner inlays, brass edging and stringing, and a central engraved brass plate to the lid.
The interior is lined with vibrant royal blue velvet and moiré silk. A ruched velvet panel within the lid springs forward to reveal a removable leather-framed mirror on its reverse. Concealed behind the panel is a leather letter wallet, to the front of which is affixed Dalton’s gold-tooled maker’s label, reading ‘Dalton - Maker - 85, Regent St. London’.
A spring-loaded drawer to the right-hand side of the box opens to reveal a separate velvet-lined jewellery compartment, fitted with a hinged panel lined in blue moiré silk and finished with gold-tooled Morocco leather.
The Bramah lock retains its key.
