Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel with Drop Front and Concealed Drawers

Ref DL007
SOLD
This smart Coromandel antique jewellery box, edged in brass with decorative inlaid brass stringing, dates from the 1860s. The engraved brass monogram of 'C.E.H' is inlaid into the lid and denotes the initials of box's original Victorian owner.

There is a recessed mounted Bramah lock, with original gold-plated key, to the front of the box.

Once opened, a front panel drops forward to reveal a drawer with its own independently locking recessed Bramah lock. This sprung-loaded drawer comprises five velvet-lined compartments and a small ring/ cuff link channel.

Directly above this drawer is a further drawer, concealed within the box's Coromandel veneered frontage. This leather-lined drawer, also sprung-loaded, is released by a push button at the back of the box's main compartment.

On the reverse of the drop-front panel is a leather-bound flap, which opens by releasing two gilt brass catches, revealing a velvet-lined jewellery display area underneath.

The main interior of the box has seven partitions and is lined in dark purple velvet, that contrasts beautifully with the original gilding on the interior brass metalwork.

Both locks are fully working and come with their original Bramah key.
