Asprey Antique Jewellery Box in Calamander Wood

Ref DL081
SOLD
This antique jewellery box, veneered in Calamander wood with cross-banded Calamander borders, was manufactured and retailed by Asprey during the early 1860's. The box is finished with brass edging, two brass recessed side handles and an inlaid and engraved central brass monogram.

In 1859, Asprey's had absorbed the highly respected firm of box maker's, Edwards, and this box bears so many of Edwards' design influences.

The interior of the box is lined and ruched with blue velvet and comprises a removable leather-bound compartmented jewellery tray. Beneath the tray is a large velvet-lined area accompanying a full width rear section.

The interior rims of the box are veneered with cross-banded Calamander, concealing Edward's Patent brass hinges. An embossed leather panel on the inside of the lid displays the gold tooled maker's mark of, 'ASPREY. MANUFACTURER TO HER MAJESTY. 166 BOND ST W.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
