Antique Jewellery Box in Calamander with Two Spring-Loaded Drawers

This large antique jewellery box, veneered in Calamander wood with brass edging and inlay, dates from the early 1870's.
The interior has been lined and ruched with burgundy velvet, and the interior rims have been inlaid with brass corner mounts. A brass button on the rear rim of the box releases the spring-loaded bottom drawer, which contains a large velvet-lined compartment and full width ring channel. The spring-loaded top drawer is deployed by pressing down on a concealed floor trigger in the compartment above.
