Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood, Attributed to David Edwards
Ref DL104
SOLD
Dating from around 1815, this antique jewellery box is veneered in Rosewood, edged in right-angle brass, and finished with recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.
The inside of the box is lined and ruched with blue velvet, having inlaid brass corner mounts to the interior rims. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray lifts out to reveal a secondary shallower tray beneath. With both trays removed, the large velvet-lined base section becomes accessible.
Judging by the age and design attributes of this box, especially the exterior design and construction, the specific variety of Rosewood veneer, the recessed side handle design, and the type of hinges and interior corner mounts - it was almost certainly the very early work of David Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury, London.
The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with its Bramah key. ... Read More
