Antique Jewellery Box in Rosewood, by Edwards

Ref DL215
SOLD
Dating from 1837, this antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of the finest English cabinet makers, Edwards. It is veneered in Brazilian Rosewood, edged in brass and finished with recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.

The interior of the box is lined with red velvet, grosgrain silk and Morocco leather. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray lifts out to reveal a secondary leather-bound tray below. With both trays removed, there is a shallow velvet-lined area below.

Interestingly, the hinges are engraved with 'Edwards Patent' accompanying a 'VR' and crown - this is the first time I have seen such markings on their hinges.

A gold-tooled maker's mark to the interior of the lid reads, 'Edwards, Manufacturer to His Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London'.

The Bramah lock is fully working and comes with a Bramah key.
