Antique Jewellery Box in Burr Walnut, by Asprey

This antique jewellery box is veneered in Burr Walnut, edged and strung with brass, and fitted with brass recessed side handles. It was manufactured and retailed by Charles Asprey during the early 1860’s.
The interior of the box is lined with blue velvet and Morocco leather. There is a removable leather-bound tray with a velvet-lined area beneath, as well as a compartmented rear section.
The independently locking lower drawer is velvet-lined as a single compartment.
A gold tooled manufacturer’s mark on the inside of the lid reads, ‘Asprey. Maker - 166 Bond St & 22 Albemarle St’.
