Small Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel with Lower Drawer

Dating from the mid 1860’s, this small antique jewellery box is veneered in Coromandel with brass edging and a Bramah lock. The central star-shaped brass escutcheon is engraved a heraldic horse head beneath a banner bearing the motto ’Semper Paratus’ [Always Ready or Always Prepared].
The interior is lined with red velvet and matching moiré silk. The perimeter of the lid is gold tooled with a delicate foliate design onto leather. A push button to the rear rim of the box releases the shallow lower drawer.
