Antique Jewellery Box in Coromandel by George Betjemann & Sons

This antique jewellery box, veneered in figured Coromandel with Ebony edging, dates from the late 1870’s. It was manufactured by one of the finest English cabinetmakers, George Betjemann & Sons of 36 & 38 Pentonville Road, London.

The interior of the box is lined with purple velvet and moiré silk. A push button to the rear of the box releases a spring-loaded front drawer, containing a velvet-lined jewellery area and a full width ring/ cuff-link channel. Inset to the front rim of the drawer is an engraved brass retailer’s plate that reads, ‘Toulmin & Gale - 7 New Bond St. London’.

The Bramah patent lock, stamped with 'G. Betjemann & Sons - London', is fully working and comes with its original Bramah key.
