Antique Jewellery Box in Amboyna, by Edwards

Dating from 1828, this antique jewellery box was manufactured and retailed by one of the finest English cabinetmakers, Edwards. It is veneered in Amboyna, an exceptionally unusual choice for the firm and the first Edwards box I have encountered in this wood. The box is edged in brass and finished with recessed brass side handles and a Bramah lock.

The interior of the box is lined with red Morocco leather, velvet and moiré silk. The top leather-bound and velvet-lined jewellery tray, with removable sub-tray, lifts out to reveal a further leather-bound tray beneath. With both trays removed, a lined base section, containing two concealed pull-out drawers, becomes accessible.

The interior back wall displays the gold-tooled maker’s mark reading ‘Edwards, Manufacturer to His Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London’.

The Bramah lock comes with its original key.
