Antique Jewellery Strong Box in Cuban Mahogany, by Leuchars

Dating from the 1850s, this very tactile, radial-edged antique jewellery strong box is made from solid Cuban mahogany with brass strapping.

The interior of the box is lined with green velvet and Morocco leather. A solid mahogany tray is removed to reveal a deep velvet-lined area beneath.

The Leuchars Patent Bramah lock features a design whereby the front aperture twists clockwise to open, and automatically locks itself when the lid is closed. The gold-plated ‘dummy’ key serves as a handle to aid with the twisting action.
